UNCONFORMITY

Upcoming. The term unconformity is used to describe any break in the sedimentary geologic record; it indicates a time when no sediments were preserved or there was a period of erosion before the next sediments were deposited. There are various types of unconformities (e.g., disconformity, nonconformity, paraconformity), each representing a different type of disruption in the geologic record. In my current research, I am considering the layering of new upon the old, often with no record of what came between; this work considers a void or lull in the record of making as a metaphor for missing sediments; work where something new is juxtaposed with the old to create tension and balance despite the incongruity.
